Hello Keith: I was just reading your reply to David. I was wondering if you could look up a marriage for me? Only if you have time. I tried to find it when I was at Salt Lake in April but could not come up with it. The information from the free BMD site is as follows.
Sept. 1837 Vol. 19 Pg. 179 Shrewbury
Richard HOTCHKISS Sarah LATEWARD
I am trying to confirm who the father is of Richard Hotchkiss. As Richard and Sarah's daughter Mary Ann Hotchkiss married William Hotchkiss (son of John Hotchkiss). Mary Ann and Willam Hotchkiss are my 3xgrgrandparents.
Thank you very much, but remember only if you have a few spare minutes.
Regards Anne Canada

Hi Ann,
No problem (I hope!!)
Will see what I can find - I have no relations in Shropshire as you will see if you kindly pay MY website a visit! (hint - hint - http://batemans-history.rootschat.net) - but am going to try to find some details out for another researcher in Australia - so it's getting a very cosmopolitan day out!!
Anything else if I have more than a few minutes!?
Cheers

Hello Keith: Thank you very much for offering to do the marriage look up for me. I really appreciate it. Just had a quick look at your website. Looks very good, I will check back in later tonight to have a good look. I am also researching in the Manchester area. But have just started on that. thanks for the offer of looking something else up but if you can just find this marriage it would be great. Once I find out who is the father to Richard then I can carry on and I would know for sure that I am on the right line.
thanks again
Regards Anne Canada

Keith - I have just taken a look at your site. I love the color scheme and the layout is really clear. You have done a fantastic job! I just wish you were searching the same names as me.

Hello Keith: I wonder if I can add another marriage look up? I am trying to find the marriage of John Hotchkiss to Emma Hotchkiss. I am pretty sure it is in Condover, Shropshire.
As John's first with Mary Hotchkiss died in the 1879 in condover and on the 1881 census for condover John is married to Emma. So it would say they married not long after Mary died. I know for sure Emma's maiden name is Hotchkiss as in her will when she died 1900 she left money to her brother Jerimah Hotchkiss. I have tired looking on free bmd site and could not come up with a marriage for John and Emma.
Like my other request for a marriage look up it is a Hotchkiss marry a Hotchkiss. It sure makes things interesting research the Hotchkiss surname. Remember only look if you do have some spare time. Thanks again.

Good morning Keith:
I am pretty sure they both have the same surname!! The only difference would be if Emma was married before. The right spelling is Hotchkiss but it does come spelt many different ways. Plus it looks like it is a very common surname in Shropshire. Census records for 1881, 1891 have it spelt Hotchkiss.

Keith and AnneMc
Just read your Hotchkiss look up with interest. My two elder children have the Hotchkiss surname. My first marriage was to a Hotchkiss, and I can confirm that it is a surname that originates from Shropshire. The spelling (with a tch rather than the other common way dg) is the "Shropshire Spelling"!!
Can I just point out also that Sarah Hotchkiss in the 1851 census Frodesley - her birthplace is ACTON BURNELL. It is a village just down the road from Frodesley. In fact I'm going to Acton Burnell on Friday with my children to have a picnic at the Castle!! What a small world

Hi Jan,
Thanks for that spelling lesson!!
I now see what a difficult job the copiers have when they don't know the area!!
I have only just moved to Shropshire - and have no past relatives living here - so the names are all new to me - but Anne will be pleased you told her the correct place - you know what these Canadians are like - if it hasn't got "Bay" after it they don't know where it is!!
Cheers
Keith

Jan:
Sounds like we are researching the same Hotchkiss family. Maybe we should compare notes. My grandmother is Sarah Ann Hotchkiss. And my Hotchkiss line does come from Shropshire.
Hope to hear from you.
