Balloon Court, Nottingham
« on: Sunday 25 July 04 08:51 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

My husbands ancestors lived at Balloon Court in Nottingham from the 1851 through to the 1881 census (in 1881 at least four of the houses were occupied by them).  I've found a reference to Balloon Court being demolished in 1899 to make way for the Victoria Station.

Does anyone know of the existence of any pictures of Balloon Court, or have any information on it?  Just like to get a little 'social history' background to my research.

Thanks,
Sasha.

Hi Bev,

Don't suppose your ancestors were Curzon's were they?

In 1881 the Curzon's lived at 18, 20, 22 and 23 Balloon Court.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the link.  I've had a quick look and it looks really interesting - I shall spend a bit of time searching the site later.

Thanks,

Hi Sasha and Bev,
I know your post is quite old now, and you may have already located Balloon Court.
Just in case you haven't, it was off Mount east street - which I believe was pulled down to make way for the Victoria Station. Nottingham's Victoria Centre, stands there today.
Hope this helps.

Hi, We are doing some research into the Barnes of nottingham and we have found an old family painting of an ancestor called Albert, stood outside his pub called the duke of wellington, which was located on mount east street. This matches up with the 1881 census, However we have little information about the public house. We do know it got sold to the manchester, sheffield and lincolnshire railway company on the 13th of may 1896 by Albert Barnes who was the trustee of john Barnes.

Just a quick question regarding the pub as it was formerly known as the Balloon,

Has anybody any records of this public house under both names?

Kind regards

Matt and Lindsey

Hi,  I have been researching my partners family tree.  The Barnes lived at Ballon Court his great grandfather is Thomas Barnes son of John Barnes.  Do you have more information regarding the family as it might be the same Barnes?
I look forward to hearing from you.
