Gateshead?
« on: Thursday 21 July 05 23:54 UTC (UK) »

Hello,
Can someone tell me, if I know that Thomas Bone was possibly born somewhere in Gateshead in 1818 and that he married a Margaret also in Gateshead would I look in Gateshead or Gateshead Fell censuses for 1841 and 1851 and 1861? What's the difference? He was possibly a blacksmith by the way aged 18-25 in '41.
Many thanks
Debbie

Debbie

I have a family of Bone's (including a Thomas born 1819) who were from Boldon/Jarrow.  Robert (brother of Thomas) married at Gateshead too on 6 Feb 1847.  Robert and his family moved over to Herrington to the mines in the 1850's.

Do you have the marriage date?

Best Wishes

Hi Andrea and Helen, Smiley
After receiving the marriage cert. here is the information I now have:

Joseph Bone Glasscutter born c. 1790's father to Thomas Bone b. c. 1818-25. Thos.  blacksmith, married Margaret Shotton 12/12/1847@ St. Mary's Church, parish Gateshead. Address given Listers Entry (?) for both bride and groom.  Witnesses George and Margaret Farthing. Unknown if Thos had any siblings but he moved to Middlesbrough and produced Thomas, Joseph, George, Robert E, Isobel and Margaret(Mary?) between !851 and !870's. All the grandsons of Thos snr. appear to have become Smiths etc. If this information matches up with what you have let me know. Do you know where Lister Entry is as per the marriage cert.?
Regards
Debbie
