Scotland to Canada 1906
« on: Saturday 23 July 05 02:56 BST (UK) »

What ship did the Ross Family from Inverness arrive in. They came to Canada in 1906. Their names: Walter and Elizaberth Ross; children were; John b. 1895, Walter b. 1896, Jane b. 1898, Catherine b. 1900 and Elizabeth b. 1903. Believe the children were all born in Gollanfield, Inverness.
Would appreciate and help.
Thanks. Aley

Aley,

I don't know what ship they came on but it looks like they were in Alberta in 1906.  Have you seen the census record for them in Calgary?

P.S.

Walter & Elizabeth McDonald Ross and their son, John, seem to have been buried in the Olds Cemetery:

http://www.afhs.ab.ca/data/cemeteries/search.php

If this is the same family, it looks like Walter died in 1912.

Always worth a look at the Ellis Island site in case they travelled to Canada via the US.

Young Walter was born at Brackley (probably a farm) in the parish of Petty.  The family, with kids John, Walter, Jane and Catherine are easy to find in the 1901 census at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk ..............

Any of the kids' birth register entries will take you directly to the marriage register entry of Walter and Elizabeth, - this entry will show you the names of their father's and mothers, and so on............

Thanks, Josephine and ibi

Now I need the dates when Walter's parents died. Parents names are Walter Ross and Catherine McDonald. They were married  1848  Petty, Inverness. Catherine born about 1823 and died I think about 1900. No birth date for Walter, died sometime between 1861 and 1871.

 FOUND THEM.

I found our Ross Family on the passenger list.
They left Glasgow May 26, 1906 on the S.S. Numidian.
Arrived in Montreal, Que. June 6, 1906.

Had the year and guessed on the month from the first written
report in the newspaper on Walter Ross winning first place for his
veggies in the county fair. He had won alot of prizes for his veggies
and flower gardens.

Aley,

That's great!

I found my Scottish family, too (Oliver)!  Luckily for me, my aunt knew what year her grandparents had arrived and that they had sailed from Glasgow.

Hello J.J.

I would be glad to help out. Did they come to Canada? Some of the Canadain passenger list are hard to read. It will give  me a break from looking for my John Robinson which I haven't found yet.
Need names, year if you have it & port of departure or country.
