Am trying to locate the family of Mary Lynch who was married in Balfron on the 3rd of May 1858. She married James Moiser who was born in Huntington, Yorkshire. Mary was the daughter of John Lynch and Helen Bruce. This is all the information that I have. Can anyone help me? Billie

Hello Billie,
Your best bet is Scotland's People (www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk) As you have an exact date and place for the marriage you should find it easily and then download a copy of the marriage certificate. (This is a pay per view site).
From this you'll get both couple's parents names, occupations and the names of the witnesses. You may also get the bride and groom's addresses at the time, the name of the minister who married them and the name of the church.
Good luck!
Anne

Thanks for your help...I have the marriage certificate with all of that information and it was there that I came to a blank....I cannot find any reference to Mary Lynch's parents prior to the marriage of mary. I also have the name of the Minister who married mary and James and e-mailed the church but received no reply. What now??? Billie

Hello Billie,
The more information you provide in a query, the more likely it is that someone might be able to help you.
How old was Mary at the time of her marriage? Were her parents listed as deceased or not on the marriage certificate? What was her father's occupation? What denomination was the church in which James and Mary were married?
Do you have James and Mary in later censuses (did they stay in Scotland?) and, if so, what is given as Mary's birthplace? The 1871 and later censuses for Scotland are online at ScotlandsPeople. You could also search for her parents in these censuses.
If Mary was born in Scotland, have you searched for the deaths of her parents on ScotlandsPeople? Remember that women were listed under their married and (if known) maiden names, so her mother Helen (assuming she died in 1855 or later - statutory registration began in Scotland in 1855) will be listed under both LYNCH and BRUCE. Scottish death certificates list (if known) the name and profession of the deceased's father, and the mother's maiden name.
Cheers,
JAP
