I have an ancestor James DOW shoemaker (b.18/9/1808 Skene - d.25 June 1889) who had parents Lewis DOW and Elizabeth DEANS
While looking on the Scotlandspeople website I downloaded a possible ancestor, Lewis DOW, labourer, who 4th feb 1856 died who is buried (accoring to his death certificate) in Banchory Ternan in Kincardine, originally from 'Glenbucket )Glenbuchat? Aberdeenshire. This was the only death on the cvil register but my interest was not too piqued until I found the following on the FreeCEN:
Piece: SCT1841/252 Place: Banchory-Ternan-Kincardineshire Enumeration District: 9 Civil Parish: Banchory Ternan Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: - Folio: 9 Page: 7 Address: Crownest
Surname First name(s) Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks DOW Lewis M 58 Ag.Lab Outside Census County (1841) DOW Elisabeth F 64 Outside Census County (1841)
Thus - is there a MI for Banchory Ternan churchyard (couldn't find one on ANESFHS website) and/or can someone check 1851 Kincardine census which may have more info?

Hello,
I live in Banchory and have just started using Rootschat! So did you ever get any help on the above query? I see that often the scottish requests get less response.
I'm originally from England and so is all my family history but if you're still looking for some local info I'll see what I can do.
Regards
Keith.

Thanks Keith, I just got back from 3 (email free) weeks on holiday. Thanks for the offer and am jusy trying to verify currently whether my James is infact the same James who was born to Lewis DOW. He has no headstone in the cemetery unfortunately.
Once I confirm they are related I will no doubt be in touch........

Hi jb7
Contact SP (see bottom of the their page 'contact us' and link through to the 'illegible image' screen). Provide them with the ref. no for Elizabeth's DC and they will send you out a paper copy which should be clear.
Regards.

Hello, Lewis Dow and Elizabeth Milne I believe are my 4th ggrandfather Alexander's parents. I would love to hear from anyone related to this family. Alexander immigrated to Canada after the 1851 census.
Regards, Sally

Hi Sally,
Right here's what I have so far.... hope it makes sense
Lewis Dow born 18 July 1783 to Alexander Dow of Achernach, Strathdon, Aberdeenshire. (Parents - Alexander Dow of Tarland and Jean Stuart of Strathdon married 11 November 1783) Siblings - Margaret, Peter, Robert, George and Elspet.
Elizabeth Milne born 1779 KincardineO'Neil, Aberdeenshire (not done much on this line yet)
What info do you have and what do you need?? If you want to pm me your email address then I can send on some more.
Regards
