Hello:
Frederick Finch (born 1853 at Steyning) and his wife, Fanny (born 1853 at Angmering) lived and raised their family at Angmering. As of the 1881 census, we know that Frederick and Fanny had five children: Kate Alice (1874), Fred (1876), Fanny (1878), Ernest (1879), and Ellen (1881).
If someone has access to the Angmering (East Preston) census for 1891, does this family appear in that set? with more children? (I'll bet  ).

I have to admire your "genealogist as a young man" icon... ;-).

p.s. I think Kate Alice might be at Littlehampton, as I found her there in the 1901 census index online. And by 1901, Fred Jr was a "Gunner RMA" somewhere in Kent.

RG12/838 was the 1891 census ref for the main family.
Found Kate Alice (age 16) in 1891 working as a general servant domestic in the Gain household, Holly Lodge, Christchurch Road, Worthing.
Couldn't find Fred jnr in 1891, but in 1901, as you said, he was a Gunner (single, aged 25) on board "Pembroke Division 2" at Chatham, Kent. Perhaps he was at sea in 1891?

It is, Julian ... thanks again. I have the 1901 index reference to the rest of the family and shall be logging on (purchasing credits) to the National Archives web site soon.
