Newcastle Business Directory prior to 1890's

I have a John Atkin of Byker who was a joiner.  I thought he was a gild member. I have information that a John Atkin (1848) is listed  with the Freeman in Newcastle.  Does anyone know how I could obtain a copy of this record?

His 1890 obit states he was a foreman with Walter Scott.  Is there a way to learn about this Walter Scott?
