Hello Pam, whilst browsing back on the site I saw your kind offer to do a look up in Edinburgh and wondered if you can help me. My Bates family all seem to be in Staffordshire but my Gt Gt Grandfather Charles Bate(s)  b c1823 states on every census 1871 - 1901 that he was born in in Scotland and on 1861 states he was born in Edinburgh. But I just cannot find him ! His occupation was in the glass business. I would be most obliged of any help you could give.

That's exactly the info that appears in IGI.

This means that there will be an entry in the Old Parochial Register for this couple, but until someone looks at the full entry it's difficult to know what additional info that there might be.

The normal would be to find the occupation of James, possibly the addresses for the couple, but only an outside chance of Janet's father's name and occupation.

At worst the record may be no more than the note that the fee for the calling of the banns, - the proclamation, - has been paid.

There is an IGI entry for Charles Melville BAIT, born 02 JUL 1820 Saint Cuthberts, to  William BAIT & Beney_ GORDON

Only related to the MI held in the library on the way home from work, my last post on the thread unfortunately explains that I no longer live in the area or work near the library as I used to back in June 04 when I made the offer.
