Henry Pye - East Barnet - help!
« on: Thursday 28 July 05 21:56 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

I'm trying to find information about a Henry Pye.

The information i have for him is that he married Laura Dean (originally from Kimbolton, Huntingdonshire) in the Barnet district in 1896. By the time of the 1901 census they had had two sons, Albert Henry (b. 1897) and Charles Alfred (b. 1899). The census shows them living in East Barnet. Henry gave his place of birth as being East Barnet. The age given for Laura was slightly out - recorded as 26 but probably actually 27/28. Henry's age was also given as 26 but i'm assuming he was born sometime between 1870 and 1875.

I've searched the birth records and can't find any entry for a Henry (or Harry) in the Barnet district. The closest i've found is one in 1873 in the Edmonton district. My problem is that i can't find either of the Henry's in either the 1881 or 1891 census!

I don't have Henry and Laura's marriage certificate yet as i'm doing this research for someone else who didn't want to spend any money on this but it may be my last resort in an attempt to locate his father and work from there.

If anyone is able to help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Hi Paula

This is probably a shot in the dark but on the 1881 I have found a Henry RYE aged 6 in East Barnet at 6 Warwick Cottages. Father is George Ag Lab, mother is Wina.

RG11 Pi1370 Fol60.

I don't have access to the original image but it might be worth checking the spelling of the name. Could be a poor transcription.!!!

Hi,

thanks very much for that. it's looking promising so far. i've looked at the image on the ancestry website and it could quite easily be 'pye' rather than 'rye'. My Henry was a farm labourer, and this henry's father was a farm labourer - so possible connection? I shall try to find him as 'rye' or 'pye' in the 1891 and 1901 censuses to see if it could be the right one or not.

Many thanks for that lead.
