Quarter Sessions and a mini tree

I'm being a bit idle so I was mooching around the A2A website and I found a very full entry on a Christmas Session Roll at Appleby on the 9 January 1776.

Here's the snippet...

FILE - Appleby: Christmas: Sessions roll - ref.  WQ/SR/397  - date: 1776 item:  [no title] - ref.  WQ/SR/397/24-27  - date: 9 January 1776

...of Jane Miller vagrant, she was born at Tarn Side in Wigton, Cumberland, she travelled the country with her parents who sold hardware handkerchiefs etc. in the summer season and lived mostly at Hensingham in the winter, her father was a Scotchman and never obtained any settlement in England, about 10 years ago she married at the parish of St. Bees to Shadarack Gregg who was a servant in that neighbourhood, and whose legal settlement was at Kirkandrews upon Esk, her husband died soon after they were married and she returned to her parents at Hensingham, about half a year after the death of her first husband she married one Jacob Miller who was a travelling tinker and left her after about three quarters of a year, she has not seen him since save once in Carlisle about 7 years ago, her legal settlement is at Kirkandrews upon Esk,
Cumberland, she has one daughter with her whose name is Martha aged 8 years and upwards and they have no other way of getting their livelihood than gathering rags casting spoons etc., they were apprehended by the constable of Great Strickland.

What a find!  If she is in your tree - it's rich with detail and ties into the IGI.

The IGI...

I think Jacob Miller - the deserter may belong to me not sure.  But as an example of what you can get from A2A it is a doozy.

Cheers,
Pam
