Kennedy's of Wexford or not?
« on: Sunday 31 July 05 16:08 UTC (UK) »

I am seeking information on my Kennedy lineage.

I have a census record showing my GGGrandfather as having been born in Cork, Ireland. The census entry was recorded in Surrey in 1861, therefore it may not be entirely correct. It has been rumored in our family that we are from Wexford, specifically Dunganstown, although I currently have no evidence of this.

I am looking for a William (b.~1811)  and Mary Kennedy (b.~1816, nee Huh?), son John (b.~1841) and likely daughters that left the Cork area around 1850-60 for England. They settled in the Long Ditton, Surbiton & Tolworth area. I would presume that they may have had cousins already in the London area. John married a Mary Gogan (b.~1842 Ireland).

Any information or leads are greatly appreciated as I have hit a brick wall at this point.

Thankyou in advance

I have a sibship of Kennedys believed to be from either Tipperary or Wexford:

Margaret Kennedy born c. 1848, James Kennedy born c. 1850 and Thomas Kennedy, born c. 1852.  Per death certificate of James, their father was James Kennedy as well.  I don't know when they arrived in the US or whether any of them travelled together, but all are in Chciago no later than 1880.  Family lore has James working "as a baker on a prison ship" during the US civil war - of course no one has said it was a US ship.  Any of this look like any of your possible Wexford data? I have nothing firm on them prior to census in Chicago.
