Battams Murder in Heath & Reach, 1882.
« on: Sunday 31 July 05 16:15 UTC (UK) »

I am trying to find out what happend to George Battams after he murdered his wife - Mary Battams. at his trial after hearing expert evidence that George Battams was mentally ill, the jury at Bedford Assizes acuitted him on the grounds of insanity and he was detained " during Her Majesty's pleasure" after that there is no sign of him. he was born in 1818 in Steppingley, Bedfordshire. i would like to find out when and where he died and where he is buried.

Kind Regards,

Gordon.

Hi Gordon

This is abit speculative but fron FreeBMD there is a death of a George Battams December quarter 1882 Easthampstead 2c 269

The registration district included the village of Crowthorne which is near Braodmoor Hospital, famous for it being the institution for the criminally insane

Hope this is a lead

Thats Excellent, I will order his death Certificate to confirm it is him but the age matches so i think it is. if he was at the hospital, is there any way of getting his notes/records?

Thanks Again,

Gordon.

Hi Gordon

Try a search for Broadmoor Hospital, there are a few hits.  This one may offer a lead
