Liz

And you'll find Michael and Maggie BLAIN in the 1891 census for Tarbolton at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk, and close by in the 1901 census.

Both died in the same locality.

Hi Liz,

You probably have all the following but just in case...  And did you notice that the name was rendered once as MCBLANE?

From the IGI at FamilySearch (all extracted entries):
Alexander BLANE m Margaret CAFFERDY about 29 Jul 1854 at Bothwell Lanarkshire.  They had:
-BLANE James, b 2 Oct 1856 at Bothwell Lanarkshire, parents Alexander BLANE & Margaret CAFFERTY
-MCBLANE Alexander, b 21 Dec 1858 at Kilwinning, parents Alexander MCBLANE & Margaret CAFFERTY
-BLANE Jane, b 5 Sep 1861 at Tarbolton, parents Alexander BLANE & Margaret CAFFARTY
-BLANE Margaret Cades, b 5 May 1864 at Kilwinning, parents Alexander BLANE & Margaret CAFFERTY
-BLANE William, b 14 Mar 1867 at Tarbolton, parents Alexander BLANE & Margaret CAFFARTY
-BLANE Marion, b 26 May 1870 at Tarbolton, parents Alexander BLANE & Margaret CAFFARTY
-BLANE David, b 18 Apr 1873 at Coylton, parents Alexander BLANE & Margaret CAFFARDY

Noting Margaret's middle name, it suggests that Alexander's parents were probably the following couple:
Robert BLANE m Margaret CADDES, 11 Oct 1833, St Quivox & Newton
The IGI has some children to them in St Quivox & Newton - there are extracted entries for Mary 1834, Jean 1836, Margaret 1838, Marion 1841, and Janet 1843.
Unfortunately, this is one of those irritating batches where only the girls have been recorded in the online IGI - I guess the boys would be on the Scottish Church Records CD.
There are quite a number of LDS submissions re the family  including an Alexander in 1832.
