Comers of Devon and Somerset pre 1840

I have a John Comer, b. 1819 Withypool, Somerset, marrying Alice Lane in South Molton, Devon in 1840.  Their family stayed there many years and I have their decendants.
Alice was born in 1823, West Indies, her father being a soldier there.
I am wanting to get a lead on the Comer family ancestors from John at Withypool and am having no success at all.
