Hi Anyone researching the GATES family of LANCHESTER?
I am interested in information about a marriage of Thomas GATES to Ann FENWICK on the 4th Nov 1844 which took place in Lanchester.
My interest is in the bride, Ann FENWICK. Before I go investing any more money on certificates, I thought it might be an idea to make sure that somebody on rootschat didn't already know of this couple.
My suspicion is that Ann is a widow & my wife's ggg grandmother.
Cheers Geoff

Geoff,
Just a snippet.
Be aware that the Durham County Council web site lists a marriage in 1844 in their " Northern" district ( this includes Lanchester and surrounding area) of an Ann Fenwick and a Thomas GALES.
Web-site DurhamRecordsOnline on line for Census 1851 in Lanchester area has a 30 yr old Thomas Gailes, born Tanfield and 29 yr old Ann Gailes, b.Collierley, with a 1 yr old son Thomas, b.Tanfield.

Hi Michael Thanks for that. Either one could be a transcription era. I have the Lanchester Parish Records on Fiche so I will look to find Thomas's birth. Hopefully it may confirm which is correct.
The 1851 census listing you show though, seems to kill this as being our family of interest

Geoff,
To put too much reliance on my info from DurhamRecordsOnline................. it is a fee-charging site, but it is free to search ... and by using clues etc, it is sometimes feasible to construct a family household..
The Thomas and Ann Gailes were together in same household as was 1 yr old Thomas.... but there might have been others in their household that were not " obvious".
