Greatgrandfathers motor
« on: Monday 08 August 05 07:07 BST (UK) »

This one is in a better state to start with. Can you improve it so I can find out what sort of car it is apart from a great big one. I assume the chauffer took the photo!

I can't do anything much to improve the picture, but I've had a look to see if I could identify the car

The nearest match I've found so far is a Crossley 20hp Tourer from around the 1909-1912 period. Theres a picture of one at http://www.crossley-motors.org.uk/preww1.html, the fifth photo down, which looks most similar, apart form the mudguards and some elements of the bodywork, but it may have been a coachbuilt conversion. The curve in front of the windscreen certainly looks very close.

I have had a reply from Beaulieu. It is a 1912/1913 Argyll 15hp "Flying Fifteen"

MoK, that looks great!  My father has a little Austin 7 1930 utility, exactly that colour (plus yellow stripes along the panel edges!).

Hi Man of Kent

It is brilliant. I had no idea anyone was attempting to colour it. I love the British Racing Green. My Greatgrandpa is in the front and his wife is in the back closest to the camera. I didn't know either of them but have lots of wonderful photos of them. My mum knew them very well. I'm sure she will love it in colour.

I'm sure John Walter was very proud of his Argyll 'Flying Fifteen'

Thanks for spending your time on it. If you fancy another car I have a 1914 Rover 18hp 5 seat 4 cylinder to do.

You give me  me to much credit, I do have a flair for art and colour, perhaps.
But when it comes to computer Graphics I am a duck out of water.

Ken

How are you finding the new program? It seems to give good results.

Just to remind us where we started.
