Chicago Newpaper
« on: Monday 08 August 05 10:50 UTC (UK) »

I know I posted on emmigrants to the USA. I found this by pure accident one day. I have posted to others as a short cut, but its ask for money, via newsbank. This is free and starts from the begining of the Chicago tribute from the year dot! if the URL does not work I would suggest doing a search on google to locate these records for free. It is well worth it if you have ancestors from IL.

OMIGOD!!  Thank you!  I'm going through it now and have found a cousin mentioned (her husband's passing), as well as her mother's, whose maiden name I didn't know until now.  Thank you so much for this incredible resource!

I'd hit the brick wall on these people ... this is wonderful!

Hi Inlinder,

Happy that you found some ancestors. I just wish I had some living in that area.
Will say I have enjoyed reading some of the older articles on Chicago,  It like re-living the untouchables!!
Lets hope the free access stays for a long time.
Regards

Hi all,
I have been a Rootschat member for a while now but only just started to make a serious search for my American connections
I see this thread is quite an old one, and none of the links now work without asking for a password etc.
Does anyone know a new link? for the Tribune archives?
                          Best wishes

Hi Jane,

I've just tried the link http ://tinyurl.com/9yoed
using my browser Mozilla, and it didn't work, I then went back to Explorer and the link works fine. Maybe you have a problem with your browser??
Good Luck

Many thanks for replying, Muesam.
When I use that link, i get a pop-up asking for a user name and password, that is my problem.
My browser is Explorer too. Maybe it can sense I am not in the US by my ISP?
I don't suppose you have any futher suggestion?
                                            Best wishes

Just wanted to say that that last link (Simeon Career Academy), with provided login details on the webpage, still work as of right this moment.  I'm currently in there looking for a relative for a distant relative *grins*

Thanks so much for keeping this resource access updated.
