Congratulations Angelfish
I know at least two of my relatives that have different birthdays to their date of birth on their certificates... so it does happen although I don't know how.
It is still possible that it is a transcription error so it wouldn't hurt to get it checked if it's not to hard.
Good luck Hlary

Well done AngelFish, another step ahead.
I've heard of people celebrating their birthdays on different dates to that registered for them, often the registration wasn't made during the three months grace allowed and so the birth date was amended so as to avoid any penalties.

Angelfish,
An interesting problem you have had to navigate through.
From FreeBMD I notice that the births of two MARY ISABELLA THOMPSON were registered in the December Quarter in 1904.
One within the Registration District of Newcastle and the other within the Registration District of Tynemouth.
Now if Mary was born in Longbenton, then her birth should have been registered within Tynemouth RO ( but parent did not have to go all the way to Tynemouth to register her, Longbenton was one of seven sub-district offices of Tynemouth)
I notice that the marriage of Thomas and Mary was also registered within Tynemouth, in the June Quarter of 1895.
This is confusing by today's "values" , as Longbenton now is a suburb of Newcastle. But in the 1800s and early 1900s it lay outside of the City of Newcastle and so BMD registrations were made in Newcastle.
Tynemouth DRO no longer exists.... all it's registers were shared out to North Tyneside RO (situated at North Shields) and Northumberland Central ( in Morpeth).
I am not sure about this, but perhaps the Longbenton BMDs were transferred to Newcastle RO, and hence the two Mary Isabella registrations.
By the way, parents were allowed 42 days grace after the birth of their child, to register the birth at the appropriate RO. So a child born say in November, might legally not get registered until, say, January of the next year, which would then appear in records under the March Quarter.
And I agree with the earlier comment ... that ages at death, on death registrations are not always accurate.

Angelfish,
I made an error in paragraph 6 of my War & Peace. Last line should read "and so BMD registrations were NOT made in Newcastle"
