I am new to this amazing site which looks like it is going to be great, however I might be doing things wronge so please bear with me. I have clicked on to you because it seems like I can look at Lanc.BDM's. Is this so, and where do I click to do so. Your help greaty appreciated. Thanks

Hello Carol,

All you have to do to view the Lancashire Births, Marriages and Deaths is to click onto the "link" which is the writing coloured dark red and this will take you the Site which I use a lot !

Thank you sarah for that, your reply is much appreciated, however I am still being "DUMB". You say click on "link" in dark red letters. Is this on your answer page. I cannot see any dark red letters on my page. I do have....Lancasire BDM"s underlined but that is in black letters and cant be opened. Sorry

This is a good site apart from the fact it gives no deaths. All the free BMD's are good sites.

All these BMD sites have been started within recent years and they rely on volunteers to help transcribe the registers. Some areas are covered better than others and it is updated every 4 weeks or so.

Eventually all Births, Marriages and Deaths will be entered.

So for now we shall just have to patient.

It was updated on the 31st Jan

Added 4,808 death entries relating to Flixton RD 1837-1841 and Stretford RD 1837-1865 (duplicating data which appears on CheshireBMD). Added 1,994 Births for Fylde (Poulton-le-Fylde Sub-District) 1837-1844 and 1846-1847. Added 1,949 marriages for Old Fylde Sub-District completing coverage for this sub-district to 1837-1901 and 1,102 marriages for Blackpool, Holy Trinity, South Shore 1900-1907.

Having just joined the system I would appreciate help in the following; I logged on to BMD filled in all the details but the system wiuld not accept the query without disabling my anti virus and fire wall not being too technically orientated I am afraid if I turn them off I may make a mistake in re engaging the programmes. Any simple solutions please.

Hiya,

The instructions on freeBMD show how to disable the firewall settings JUST for the freeBMD site - in a way it's setting it up to make freeBMD a "trusted" site. Don't turn off your firewall or anti-virus program.

Hi everybody

I've just joined this list, but I do wonder at the above statement! I live in Australia and I'm a transcriber for Cheshire BMD, so I don't actually live in a 'town/village'. Is it possible to transscribe for the Manchester area, (where all my ancestors lived for donkey's years) while living 12,000 miles away. If so, could somebody tell me who I need to contact please?
