Looking for information about my great great grandparents, Archibald HALL (b. abt. 1827 in St Ninians, Stirlingshire) and Ann BAUCHOP (b. abt. 1826 in ?).
They were married on 1 July 1859 in Larbert, Stirlingshire.
Regards, Sarah WALKER (m.s. HALL) Australia

Hi Sarah,
According to the British Vital Records CD's, in the 1820's there was only one family of Bauchops in that area (Larbert and Falkirk are side by side almost).
Unfortunately there is no Ann amongst the births:

BAUCHOP, Janet Christening Gender: Female Birth Date: 6 Mar 1826 Christening Date: 16 Apr 1826 Recorded in: Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland Father: Robert BAUCHOP Mother: Mary RANKINE Source: FHL Film 1041945 Dates: 1783 – 1839
BAUCHOP, Jean Christening Gender: Female Birth Date: 10 Jan 1828 Christening Date: 27 Jan 1828 Recorded in: Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland Father: Robert BAUCHOP Mother: Mary RANKINE Source: FHL Film 1041945 Dates: 1827 – 1828
I couldn't find a birth fro an Archibald Hall in the St. Ninian's area in the 1820's
From the 1881 cencus - could this be your family (moved to St. Ninian's)
The dates aren't quite a match for yours but it was the only Archibald and Ann Hall I could find.

Thank you Anne,
That is my family at Bannockburn Road!
The birth date and place of the Janet BAUCHOP you listed fits with my Ann...
Have you ever heard of Janet and Ann being used interchangeably?
Regards, Sarah

Hi Sarah,
You're very welcome!
As regards to names being interchangeable - I personally have come across it time and time again - you look high and low for a Janet and all you can seem to find are Janes, Jeans, Jennys etc etc.
I'm not saying that this is the case with your Ann but it could be (J-ann-et). Ann might have been a middle name or she might simply have been called Ann from childhood and it stuck!
I had another look for Archibald Hall, date of birth 1826 - 1828. There were three, 2 born in Renfrewshire and 1 in Midlothian. It might be the case that his parents didn't register his birth . . . ?
Anne
