Help reading addresses on marriage certificate
« on: Tuesday 16 August 05 10:58 UTC (UK) »

Can anyone help reading the addresses on this certificate.  Once I have identified them I will ask if the streets still exist unless you can tell me that as well in one go.

Anchorfield and Annfield are the two addresses on the certificate above.

Anchorfield and Annfield are two separate streets a very short distance apart. Go to www.streetmap.co.uk and input Annfield, click on the street button, then search. Select the first one on the list (in Edinburgh EH6) and you will see it on a current street map. It was originally the main road leading into Newhaven from Leith. 1970s road rebuilding changed that.

To see it in its older form, below the map on streetmap.co.uk, you will see two co-ordinate numbers 325809 and 676957. Enter these separated by only a comma into the search box on www.old-maps.co.uk - click on the co-ordinate button, then search, and you will see the old layout on an 1855 map.
