I'm very fond of this poem ' Heredity ' and hope others like it too.
I am the family face; Flesh perishes, I live on, Projecting trait and trace Through time to times anon Leaping from place to place Over oblivion.
The years-heired feature that can In curve and voice and eye Despise the human span Of durance - that is I; The eternal thing in man That heeds no call to die.
I love the thought of that family face leaping from place to place. Let's know if that's happened in your generations. Our grandchildren are certainly a living demonstration of it !
Dear Su - Thank you for your your comments on my Grandma (my mother's mother) - yes she was lovely. I was interested to hear that the family face had certainly re-appeared in your brother. Would you be able to post the two photos - just an idea !
My grandad's youngest brother emigrated to Canada. His granddaughter looks scarily like my sister.
I googled my grandad's older brother the other night (he died in 1917). I found a photograph of him on the silent cities site. As I couldn't quite believe that I had found a picture of him, I called my other half in to the room who promptly said, "You can see he's a Meehan".
So I guess it's true - there are just certain features that seem to recur throughout the generations.
Wotty.
