Sheerin / Flynn in Geashill, Rathfeston, Daingean
« on: Saturday 20 August 05 16:03 UTC (UK) »

Can I add another bit to my previous posting? Sheerin and Flynn were my grandparents names. Large families but I've had no luck. The Parish Priest referred me to Tullamore archives but their fee was too high.
Thank you

Sheerin is one of the families living in Geashill and mentioned in the book Tenants No More. Apparently this family had very little land and left the area. There is mention of a Thomas Sheerin (later spelled Sheeran).  Edward and Patrick Sheering are mentioned as leasing 4 acres in the period 1856-61. These may well all be the Sheerins you are referring to.  Hope this helps.

Hiya Barbara,

I posted a reply on your previous message.

LH, do you remember who wrote "Tenants No More" or who published the book?

Chris

Thank you for your answer but I have since found out that my Sheerins came from Westmeath and Kildare. But the book sounds interesting. Hope you put the author in.

Tenants No More: Voices from An Irish Townland 1811-1901 was written by Phyl Frazer Simons.  The book is the result of a diary and actual collection of letters sent during the 1850s, to and from Ireland - America/Australia, by members of the Clay, Warren, Sutherland and Stanley families who resided in Geashill and Killeigh.  Several other families are mentioned in the letters and an index at the back of the book lists these.

Hello. I can't find this book anywhere. Do you have an ISBN number?
