Would a Beverley birth be registered in Hull?

Am searching for a 1856 birth certificate for Matilda Cross, born in Beverley. Can anyone tell me if I would have to go to Hull to get a copy or if it would be elsewhere?

Carol.   Thanks for your tip. I spoke to the staff who were very helpful and they will look out the birth certificate that I need and will also attempt to find the corresponding marriage certificate for the lady in question. As long as you can be reasonably precise in the year you are looking for (within one or two either side), it should be possible to get a result. What this proves is that there is a lot of information available that is not on-line, which will guide me in the future.
