does anyone know anything about archie, believed to have played for arsenal, and possibly england probably 1920s or earlier. Family came from around the Brierly area (I've tried the arsenal sites).

Hi tj
Sorry we haven't been able to help you so far on this one.
Have you made any progress, or do you have any further details that could help someone to find what you are looking for?
Look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes

Thanks Ticker.
I've just been corrected by the yorkshire side of our family. It was Heppinstall with two p's, and of course Brierley has a second "e". Of course it does! I knew that!
It's a bit vague this one. I've tried the Arsenal web sites without any success so far as they have very patchy records for this period. Apparently Archie also played for england according to family legend. How many games I have no idea. Sadly nobody survives who can say for sure.

Hi tj
No problem. Thanks for the update.
I have a book on England players which lists all 1003 players that made an appearance for England between 1872 and 1988 and there are no Heppinstall's listed I'm afraid.
I found one reference to a Heppinstall in an Arsenal/Spurs game in 1910:
http://arseweb.com/history/stats/teams/spurs.html (rather unfortunate address! )
But from another site I think that must have been Frank Heppinstall

Best wishes

I think you've found him. It's within the vague timeframe that we have and if Archie was a nickname it fits.
Thanks for helping Ticker
