Hello, I am searching for details of James McClay Sandford. Solicitor. His son was James Sandford. He married Margaret Archer 8/07/1867 Both were 23 years of age. Although this is disputable.
The marriage took place at The Register Office in the District of Newcastle Upon Tyne. Profession of James Jnr was Professional Low Comedian. Residence at time of marriage was Hanover Square.Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Margaret`s father was coffee roaster. Witnesses at marriage were William Copson ,Isabella Oliver.Any help gratefully appreciated.

Picked the following up, while browsing in local library.....

John Sandford, 35 years,
Elizabeth Sandford, 30,
James Sandford, 7.

Although "Sandford" sounds not an uncommon names, there were hardly any in the Surname Indexes for Census
1851 for the 5 main areas of Newcastle, and no adult James.
Have a look at the two results that Google throws up from a search on............ "James Sandford" Comedian....

Hello Michael Thanks for your help. I found your reply fascinating. Didn`t think you could find this sort of information from Google search. I looked up Travellers in 1881 British Census ( Entertainers) found Thomas Sandford age 27 Born ? Glasgow Lanark Scotland Boarder Actor Comedian.
Wife Clara age 27 England Boarder Actress Comedienne.
Christina age 4 England Boarder ( Dau)
The James who was married in Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1867 was listed as Low Comedian/Actor.
On 1881 Census he was at.
5 Pink Lane Newcastle Upon Tyne St John Northumberland.
James Sandford age 33 born Newcastle upon tyne
Occupation Comedian.
I wonder if he is related to Thomas.
James`s wife in 1881 Census was at this address.
3 Maxwells Square Off Millgate Wigan Lancashire.
Margaret Sandford Married age 35 Born Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Charles Sandford age 9 born Liverpool
Phoebe Sandford age 8 Born Gloucester
Mary A Sandford age 6 Born Sheffield.
This was definately a family that travelled!!
I wonder if the family originally came from Scotland??
It`s sounds like a scottish family especially father`s name James McClay Sandford who I am searching for.
You mentioned two results on google I only found one would you let me know where the other one was please. Again mamy, many thanks for your help.

I just repeated the Google search and got 2 web sites, one UK, the other US don't forget the inverted commas around James Sandford !
I saw the Pink Lane record... I passed Pink Lane today, it is a spit away from the Tyne Theatre and Opera House on Westgate Road... I wonder if he performed there !
