Edward HARBROE burial lookup please
« on: Monday 29 June 09 02:39 UTC (UK) »

Does anyone have access to the registers/index for burials in Send & Ripley, Surrey? Would it be possible to lookup the deaths of a couple generations of Harbroes please? I am looking for:

Edward Harbroe, died c. 1802
Jane Harbroe, Edward's wife...sorry not sure when she died
Edward Harbroe, died c.1833

Both Edwards were surgeons. If anyone has an index I would be very interested in any other Harbroes in the parish too...but not sure how many there were, probably too many.  Smiley

Thanks,
Alexander

Hi Alexander,
From the Surrey Burial Index in RIPLEY;

Edward Harbroe buried 10/4/1802 age 68
Edward Harbroe  ditto   10/10/1833 age 53
Three Jane's buried in Ripley,

18/11/1792 age 36
10/2/1792   no age
28/12/1829  age 86

There are others by the name of Harbroe/Harbrow buried at Ripley, any specific name or do you want them all?

Thank you, Jane, this confirms that I had the right Edward Harbroe. If it would not be too much trouble, could you please post the other Harbroe burials too because I'm still working out all the relationships.

Also, do you know if there was a separate church at Ripley, because all the IGI says is Send & Ripley so I'm a bit confused??? I assumed that meant there was one church that covered both parishes.

Thanks,
Alexander

Hi Alexander,
I've sent you a PM but in the meanwhile......I'm not familiar with Send & Ripley but having a quick look it appears that SEND has the older church, St. Mary's & their registers start in 1653 & would include RIPLEY.  Ripley seems to have got its own church around 1794 (another St. Mary's) which, according to the Surrey History Centre's list of parish registers, is when their registrations started.  So I would think that prior to 1794, those living in Ripley walked the mile into Send for all their church-related events!
The link below gives a little information on the area,
