1851/61 Census : CANT Janet Hogg (or Jessie)
« on: Friday 26 August 05 03:13 BST (UK) »

I'm hoping it's possible to find my husband's g. grandmother on the above census please.  In 1841 Janet Hogg CANT was aged 6 (ie born  1834 St Vigeans) and living with her parents Thomas and Margaret in Grange of Conon St Vigeans.  Her siblings William, Mary, Susan, Elizabeth and Margaret were linen hand loom weavers.  Later in her life she was known as Jessie CANT.  She also had a brother John b. 1835.

She came to Australia in 1869 aged 35 and married her first cousin once removed William CANT.  I have to write something for local historical society and wondered what she was doing before she came to Australia.  I guess she probably followed in the footsteps of the rest of her family.

Cheers Ruth
