Looks to me like Culzean but is/was that Argyll?

Hi Kenjo

Looks like Culzean (pronounced Cullane!) which is in Ayrshire.

President Eisenhower was gifted a residence in the castle after WW2. Now a National Trust for Scotland property which is worth a visit if you are ever in the area.

Hi Kenjo,
I wonder if it was meant to be KILLEAN in Argyleshire, almost the same sound as Culzean as Russell has pointed out.

Wow! Thanks for your input here.
Everyone.....
This problem is for a very dear friend of mine, that I have helped for a while now.
but, I couldn't do anymore with this, somewhere else on a thread, the same conclusions were made, my friend even wrote to experts in Glasgow, and they said the Argyle one.. and then she received an answer from a different group that it was the Ayrshire one......
So I told her, I don't know.....
I always send the rootshat opinions when they come....
But regardless, there is either a problem with the the ancestors Death certificate or Huh
because nothing can be found on the parents names, to give a clue.....sorry just at the moment I can't even think who the parents are. Tongue
The MIs didn't show anything either. Fogo Berwickshire.
Thanks for giving this thread another life.
Jo Grin

Modified....
Quote
Her name being Flora McLean, married to John Penny.
On her death certificate, it said father Alexander McLean
& mother Mary Miller.
I feel that Mary will be right, but whether the rest is correct has to be proved.
She was buried at Fogo, and her husband wasn't. so that leaves me to beleive that her parents are buried in Fogo.

Hi Kenjo

with a name like Flora, and Alexander as father I'd be inclined to go with the Argyllshire guesstimate.
Millar/Miller could be almost anywhere.
Culzean is on the mainland and would be known about rather more than some of the smaller parishes in Argyll.
At least it would give a place to look. Let's hope your searches come up positive

There, Now that is correct, hey, Flora and McLean, is more an Isle name, so I can finally say RChat and Russell have come up trumps... We already have the film number for the parish starting with K, in argyle, so now she can go ahead.. with  a MORE POSITIVE ATTITUDE, this has been plagueing Donna for a long time......
Thankyou for making a decision for me.....

Great going, Russell,

Jo    that's terrific

There's nothing like the feeling when an inspired guess turns out right.

No. Just rethought that one  - when an inspired guess about a death certificate gives both husband and wife on the same page  -and that was in Argyll - one of the very small parishes!

That one led to a highland jig!
