Hi,
I am looking for my ancestors. Isabella Sophia Thatcher. I know she married Giles Dobney in May of 1841 @ Church of St. Nicholas, Abingdon, Berkshire. I am trying to locate her father in the 1841 & 1851 census. His name is
Thomas Thatcher
Occupation: Clerk at Post office.
If anyone would be so kind to do this search for me I would be incredibly grateful.

I've had a look at the 1851 census - same result as DebbieG in the 1841 I'm afraid. In fact there are no DOBNEYs in the whole of the census, let alone in Abingdon.

I've had a quick look for Giles and Isabella in on line records. I can only find three records for a Giles DOBNEY - one is 1798 (marriage Somerset), one is the marriage you have and one is a marriage in March 1851 at Greenwich. This last one may be of interest as there is the one and only reference to Isabella Sophia DOBNEY (death) in September 1850 at Greenwich. So if these records are your DOBNEYs, it may be that Giles remarried, that said it is odd that there is no other records. Did he emigrate ?

Thanks for everyone's responses. Yes, Giles remarried 6 months after Isabella died. Still shaking my head at that. Isabella died 4 days after giving birth to their son John (my G Grandfather). I just received her death certificate which I ordered from UK BMD. I also ordered their marriage certificate. Isabella and Giles were married May 31st Church of Saint Nicholas, Abingdon in the county of Berkshire. Just looking at her death certificate I noticed that she died 26th September 1850 in the sub district of Saint Paul's, Deptford, in the counties of Kent and Surrey. Their address at the time was 15 Martin's court Mason Street Deptford. Giles married Elizabeth Hogan in 1851. He moved to Australia in 1854 on assisted immigration on the "Maria Hay" with his new wife Elizabeth, his son John and their baby Elizabeth. Interestingly enough there is a typo and it lists them as Doberry, however I know it is them due to names (Giles, John, Elizabeth & Elizabeth). I am not sure what happed to Thomas Thatcher. The Dobney line of the family has always been a difficult one for me. Usually when I do a search for Dobney the search comes up empty. I know they were originally from Taunton Somerset as I have Giles Dobney death certificate. It lists his dad as John Dobney and they are both coach makers. I believe this John (58) shows up on the 1851 census with his wife Martha (57).
