Did GGFather Frederick McGoverne die in NZ?

According to Stones Directories he lived in Dunedin from 1901-1923, and a search of the Dunedin  death indexes to 1933 turned up nothing. Being a seaman he might have gone back to England when his wife died in 1921.  Any ideas anyone?

He was born in 1872, so by 1923 he would have been 51ish.
