Is anyone researching the Sturdy family? if so I would be interested in hearing from you. I am currently looking for an Oswald Sturdy born circa 1708.
He had 4 children baptised at Nun Monkton. Oswald & Thomas 21 July 1736. Susannah 25 June 1739. (my ancestor) Elizabeth 21 November 1743.
No baptism or marriage for Oswald were found at Nun Monkton.

Hi Kristin, Many thanks for the Sturdy info, the Thomas Sturdys you found at Cawood may be descendants of a Thomas Sturdy also a gardener, who was buried 25 July 1726 at Nun Monkton, I suspect the Nun Monkton Thomas might be a brother of Oswald. I have details of an Oswald Sturdy a gardener buried 6 March 1742, he could be either "my" Oswald or his father, no age or any details were given in the burial entry other than that he was a gardener.
Someone kindly sent a baptism entry from the British vital records of John son of Thomas Sturdy baptised 9 Jan 1715 at Cawood, so with the burial entry for Dinah at Settrington I have two leads to follow now. Sometime between 1743 and 1766 Susanna & Elizabeth Sturdy moved down to Essex where Susanna married William Adams in 1766. An Elizabeth Sturdy was a witness at the wedding, I presume this is Susanna's sister, although since I don't know her mother's name, Elizabeth could be the mother . Thanks for the offer of further help but at the moment I really don't have much to go on other than the two possible clues of Cawood & Settrington. I'm hoping that someone may by chance come across a baptism or a marriage for Oswald, I won't be holding my breath though.
I am very grateful to you for taking the time and effort to look for my Sturdy family.

Hi Kristin, Just had second thoughts about your offer. Could you look on your CD please and see if there is a marriage for a Thomas Sturdy around 1700, Oswald named one of his two sons Thomas which could be the name of Oswald's father.
Thanks.

I checked and there were no marriages for a Thomas Sturdy listed. The CD is hit or miss as there are odd periods included for misc. places.
Sorry. I hope some of the pieces you are gathering come togther. If you find other names in ERY, please feel free to ask. Most of these records are 1550-1820. Pre-civil registration which is great but I found I need one more generation to connect the persons. The 1770-1820 people has been my problem. -Kristin
