Hi Alma
I have checked the 1841 census of Claughton without finding any Mcginty's or simular.
Can you tell me what info you have that points to that area, and I will see if I can help.

Hello Peter,

I am most grateful for your invaluable assistance already.  In the 1871 UK Census Edward said he was born "Claughton, Birkenhead, UK.  He was at that time residing at 41 Dorrington Street  in Liverpool with his "wife" and family (Eliza Agnew born 1841 Cheshire).  He was a shipwright and in his marriage lines 1876 gave his father's name as Michael, deceased.  I have noted 3 Edward McGintys all registered Manchester in the relevant time period 1841-1846.  His first son was called Richard and I did see a Richard McGinty born Ireland on the IGI.  He also said "Ginty" at the time of his son Arthur's birth in 1872.  We have found the family 1871, 1881 and 1901 census.  Earliest address we have is the Dorrington St address and by 1881 the family was at 12 Seville St, Liverpool.   Should we opt to get the birth certs for all those Edwards.??  Also saw an Edward McGinty born in the relevant time period in Scotland...Eliza's father Arthur was deceased at time of her marriage also.

Is there anything else I can add to assist you?

MANY THANKS

Hi Alma
I wouln't go for the certificates as yet, can you post all the details from the 1871 census including spelling mistakes,
I have tried to turn it up but no luck finding it. I will try to find them on the 1861/51 censuses. I f as he says he was born Claugton Birkenhead his details should be in the Cheshire BMD.

Hi Alma
Have searched the Chester districts for the McGinty family without luck, the thinking was that he must have met Eliza Agnew somewhere.
My thinking is that Michael and family must have been in Cheshire for a short while only, there are no registrations BMD in the indexes for them and only one Mcginty (Charles ) birth reg. Birkenhead 1846 which may be a brother to Edward ??

Look forward to hearing from you

Hello again,

Eliza Agnew & Edward McGinty were married in All Souls Church (RC) Liverpool ?  Collingwood Avenue
Both the parents (Arthur Agnew) and Michael McGinty were listed as deceased at time of the marriage in 1875.

In the 1860 directories Liverpool: McGinty -

Hannah, 166 Field St
John, shipwright, Jones Terrace, 35 Tarlton St, Everton
William, shoemaker, 49 McKee st.

Also apparently birth of an Edward McGinity 1849 Liverpool.

Yes I too am thinking that the family if they were in Birkenhead had not resided there very long.  Maybe that birth cert for Charles may be a resort..

Sorry I have little further to assist you.

and Thanks again for your help

I have now searched the marriage index online for any marriage of a Michael McGinty father of Edward - no marriages of any Michael appear between 1837-1846.  A marriage of a Michael McGinty in All Souls, Liverpool 1868 - same Church as Edward got married in but does this mean anything??  I suspect maybe the family did originally not reside in Chester - what do you think, Peter - where to now - I have death of a Michael McGinty in Liverpool 1861 but he could be not ours!

Hi Alma

I have found a ref to 2 Mcginty families in the name index for the 1861 census Birkenhead, and have asked one of our regular lookeruppers Floridagirl if she will look up the full details next time she is at the Liverpool library, this she said she will do on her return from holiday in a couple of weeks.
The ref details are RG9-2643 F 123a and 133a
So hopefully it may be good news.

Sorry to butt in but I don't think the '61 for Birkenhead is at the Liverpool Library, if it is I couldn't find it last time I went a few weeks ago. Cry
