McGinty Surname - hunting continues
Hello,
Peter, after some thought I will order the census for 1861 to the LDS Family History Centre here - with your input it shouldn't take me long to find the 2 families on the film. I will let you know progress - if anyone else you are in contact with would like a lookup done whilst I have the film out and has relevant numbers I could help maybe.

Hi Alma Many thanks for the offer, there are non on the board that I can see at the moment, don't know when you will get the reel but if you have time maybe you could put an offer on the Cheshire offers board, if anyone is interested I could then give you the relavent details from my name index.

Hello Peter
The film has just arrived at the LDS so hopefully will be able to find time this week to search it.

Hello Alma I was just trawling through the topics and the Name McGinty struck a cord in my mind. It Might not be of any interest of course, but could any of the later McGinty's have lived in the wallasey Area? The reason i ask is because I have seen A McGinty on a burial look up or on a grave stone in rake lane cemetery in the last few months. Think it was the latter. I am sure i am not wrong because i remember The McGinty jig popping into my mind.

RE : MCGINTY
Hi Celia
I've not been online for some time so sorry I hadn't seen your earlier responses. This is great as I know that one of the family was definitely in the Navy during WW1. They lived in Liverpool but of course could well have moved around a bit. I will need to check this out - and will reply asap. Thanks ever so much for your work and keen memory. Folks are just great when it comes to helping out.

McGinty
Hello again Peter
I've been mighty quiet for some weeks! However I have had a very short look at the 1861 census film here. Have replied to your request for lookup for Hewitt surname.
Am also posting the McGintys I found thanks to your help with the index No's
McGinty - ( 123)James McGinty lodger aged 21 blacksmith/slater born Ireland at 289 Walton Street lodging in the home of: James Whelan aged 44 Winifred Whelan aged 50 Born Ireland Mary Whelan daughter aged 24 born Ireland Winifred Whelan daughter aged 14 born Birkenhead Wm White aged 23 lodger born Birkenhead Patrick Tormady lodged? born Scotland
133a McGinty 20 Elizabeth Street John McGinty married head, dock Labourer aged 30 born Ireland Margaret McGinty aged 25 born Ireland Anne McGinty aged 3 born Chester, Birkenhead Sarah McGinty aged 12 months born Chester, Birkenhead
Still working on the above info but have ordered the birth certificate of one Edward Gentey born 1842 1st quarter Wirral to look at. I did a search on the Cheshire BDMs on line - what a wonderful research tool. Looked for anything remotely like Ginty/McGinty. The age is pretty well about right ..do you have anything on this unusual Surname which to me looks as though it could have been amended through the years?? Could be Gandy of course!! I am inclined to think the Charles G you mentioned is in this family also but thought I'd give Edward a "go" Fortunately I have a contact here who sends for certs on our behalf via postal service Will keeping posting and researching
Regards

Hi Alma i am still on your track you do have a lot of McGinty in Liverpool Lancashire (as was)but there are a lot in Salford Manchester, The still Lancashire.
I.G.I Cheshire U.K.B.M.D Birkenhead births registers in wirral 1873 sub/dist Stockport second John McGinty That's all it says.
1876 Sub/dis B.H Mary Ann
1881 Sub/Dis B.H Elizabeth Maud The only births i could find in B/H
No Births in Cheshire on the I.G.I that i can find .Between 1776 & 1962 there were 39 B.M.&D in Liverpool & Salford couldn't find any before 1776 in Manchester. If you have looked at a map of the U.K you will see Manchester is next door to Liverpool. Hope this might come in useful
P.S I wouldn't say McGinty is an unusual name. There are probably thousands of them in Ireland

Happy Christmas folks and good luck through 2005!
I have now a birth of Edward GENTEY 6 Jan 1842 at 8 Colesmans Court, Birkenhead, father was Michael Gentey labourer of same address and mother was Honer formerly RICHARD.
Can anyone assist now a census lookup or give me an idea of where to go now regarding the address - Honer signed her name with "x". Coud the surname be GINTY.. age is fine for my Edward and place is OK too!

Hi Alma
I cannot find the family in the 1851 Birkenhead, so it looks as if they may have moved by then, here is the 1841 that seems to be them. Very difficult to read so I have posted the scan to see what you make of it.
1841 HO107-126-7-F16 Chester St Birkenhead
Michael Genty 30 labourer born Ireland Honour 30 ~ James ? 5 ~ ?? female 3 ~
I will continue to search through the 1851 for anything similar, but it may be an idea for you to post on the Lancs page also for a lookup under that spelling.

Greetings Peter
Thanks for all the work - this is just great. Obviously you are a very keen genealogist also. I will surely take you advice and do another post to that other county. Do you actually have a copy of the 1841 census on CD? Was wondering how you came by the info so quickly
