1841/51/61 census look-up please - ANTHONY
« on: Sunday 29 November 09 18:46 UTC (UK) »

I am interested in finding the family of Alfred F (Feargus) Anthony in the census
He was born Jun Qtr 1841 in Arnold (poss before the census)
His parents are Joseph and Mary

He was married in 1859 to Charlotte Kirk but his parents may still be alive in 1861

Any help much appreciated
Thanks

Hi slaw and Mort

Thank you for your replies
Yes I do have him with Charlotte and his family in 1881 and his birth as 1842 on the IGI which gave me his parents names, but I did not see a christening nor for any siblings
His birth entry on FreeBMD looks like the Jun Qtr 1841 as there doesn't seem to be another one

The 1861 is certainly a possibility but it would be nice to see the family in 1851 with him on it
He's under Alfred Furgas Anthony in the index for 1851 that I looked at and there were a lot of names with parents Joseph and Mary so I'm wondering if they are all the same family - it doesn't specify town of course on the index, just Notts

Thanks

Joseph Anthony 30
Mary                  35

Alfred                  20
Charles               15
Samuel                10

James                  2
Anthony William     1 month
Frederick Taylor       15

Joseph and Mary and Hannah  not born in county
Unfortunately 1841 does not give relationships so difficult to see who the baby belongs to

Hi yonderpeasant and Mort

Thank you very much for the censuses
Certainly pretty conclusive
Some of the older children in 1841 could be siblings of Joseph, they are too old to be his children and the baby could belong to one of them - hard to tell as you said especially as he doesn't appear on the 1851
Since mother Mary was a Taylor the Fred must be a brother or other relative

Thank you for all your help

Hi Carol

Thank you very much for the burials
I was just checking FreeBMD and had found Mary's in 1872 but the only Joseph I found in Basford Dist was 1863
If it's 1877 he must have died in Sheffield as that one is 70 and the right quarter - I didn't see a Joseph death in Basford under any spelling

I have also found lots of baptisms on the IGI and on FreeREG for Anthonys so it's coming together very nicely

Many thanks
