Cameron- Kilmalock Ross-shire
« on: Friday 28 November 08 23:16 UTC (UK) »

Hello there, are there any other CAMERONSout there? I'm related to John CAMERON, who emmigrated in 1838 aboard the James Pattison. He is my 4 great grandfather through my great great grandmother, Janet Emmeline CAMERON. John CAMERON was born on about Dec 1816, in Kilmalock Ross-Shire(I have no idea where that is?) to Alexander CAMERON and Janet WHITE.
I know he was a shepheard and he married Janet Watson in 1838 at Inverness.
I would love to find out more about his life in Scotland, brothers and sisters ect or hear from any Cameron rellies.

Hi

I am descended from Allan Cameron b 1821 who was also the son of Alexander Cameron and Janet Whyte.

Alexander was born 10/6/1784 in Drimnasallie, Kilmallie and was the son of Alexander and Catherine Cameron. I don't have much on Janet other than she was born c 1782.

Alexander and Janet (as far as I know) had the following children:

Alexander bpt 30/12/1804   Drimnasallie
Christian bpt 27/1/1807       Drimnasallie
Katherine bpt 27/1/1807      Drimnasallie
Mary bpt 21/5/1809              Drimnasallie
Mary bpt 24/3/1814              Drimnasallie
John b 1816                          Kilmalock
Allan bpt 4/11/1821              Kilmallie

Regards

Thankyou very much Tracey. Did your side of the family remain in Scotland?

Yes

Allan moved to Perthshire and married Janet Whitehead. They eventually settled in Motherwell, Lanarkshire and their youngest daughter Christina was my 2x great grandmother. She seems to have been quite a character with two marriages and also an illegitimate child, my great grandmother Annie.

I currently live in a small town called Shotts, about 10 miles from Motherwell.

My great grandmother Janet CAMERON was the same, she had two illegitamate children before marrying my great grandfather William COOPER.
Her father was Alexander Andrew CAMERON, was a miner and he had two wives and then while still married to Janets mother Mary Emmeline was living in a defacto relationship with another woman and had a family with her. Must be in the Camerons to be a little bit wild.
John Cameron the son of Alexander worked as a shepherd until he ended up running his own run at Mendaroon. His father Alexander CAMERON also ended up in Mendooran as an overseer.

Hi,
I am also a descendent of John and Janet Cameron who emigrated to Australia. I am descended from their son John and Mary Copeland. My grandmother (Martha Cameron) was born and married at Nullen which was their family home and farm in Mendooran.  I don't know if you know about the Clan Cameron Australia internet site which has a lot of John and Janet Cameron's descendents listed.
