John Young born in Highworth 1790

Hello,

It looks as if you are busy enough but if anyone has any time to tell me anything I would appreciate your help!

I have traced my ancestors from Somerset back to Berkshire then Oxfordshire and now revealed in a 1841 census recently that my latest 'John Young' was born circa 1790 (or there abouts) in Highworth, Wiltshire!  This is dispelling the story that we originated from Scotland which my Dad had believed to be true.

As there are no census's further back I was wondering if the name 'Young' was very frequent around Highworth in the 1841 census for 'young's of a similar age to John.  John married a lady called Susannah who was from Oxfordshire (which could explain why he moved there).

Any help appreciated.

There's only one Young in Highworth itself in 1841 - I don't know if it's of any interest, but I'll include it anyway, just in case!

Ref HO107/1178/10 Folio 10 Page 8 - Eastrop, Highworth

Mary Young - 80 - - Born out of county
Philiss Higgs - 75 - - Born in county

In the 1851, looking for Young's born in Highworth, I can only find -

Ref HO107/1959 - Little Dean (folio and page not given on the index I have)

YOUNG Chouls (Charles?) 53 Sawyer Highworth
Esther 56 West Dean
Charlotte 19 Little Dean D&D
Ephraim 17 Sawyer Little Dean
Mary Ann 15 Scholar Little Dean
Jane 12 Scholar Little Dean

The index is a bit vague as to whether Young is the Christian name or surname, so may not be helpful.....

The name Mary has certainly been popular in my family but this was also typical of the era.
