When I worked in a travel agent, people could never understand why the airport code for Tees-side was MME; I presume Durham and Tees Valley (too much of a mouthful) is still MME as it was, long , long ago when it was Middleton in Teesdale. Ours not to question why...

Great news for Bro' residents!
Now... perhaps this plucky Ancestry programmers will then be able to turn their hands to the 1,807 County Durham residents who, in 1891, found themselves born in the Western Sahara!

Nor forgetting those from Montgomeryshire who became residents of Montana!
Paul E: Where was Western Sahara really?

Hi Ruthie
In Ancestryland, Western Sahara is a place called Esh (Esh Winning?) in County Durham.
Don't think too many people have bothered disputing Esh Winning, Diana!
cheers
Paul

You're jokin' me! Beats Montana for Montgomery any day! Mind you- had trouble finding ggggrandpa Richard Jones, as someone had presumed Kerry Montgomery was Kerry in Ireland. RuthieB
Was that Arsenal who suffered an unexpected defeat at the Riverside?

Surely you mean Middleton St George? Middleton in Teesdale is a lot further up the Tees valley.
