ITALY: Valente Family - Italy to Ireland
« on: Thursday 08 September 05 11:12 BST (UK) »

I am really hoping someone can help me.  My gr gr grandfather and a brother/brothers came to Ireland from Montecassino, San Peitro Infine area around 1880.  Can someone please tell me how I can find out the records of the ship and passenger records etc?  My gr gr grandfather was Dominico Valente (there is a lot of variations in the Belfast Street Directories) he married a Theresa Captiona.  They had as far as we know six children.  Antoino(my gr grandfather), Francesco, Carmine, Monica, Angelina and Margaret.  If anyone has any information on this family I would love to hear from you.  Dominico's brother was Luigi.

http://irelandgenealogyprojects.rootsweb.com/Old/complete.html - it doesn't look like you'll have much luck.  I know that Kew doesn't generally hold records for ships from Europe as those passenger lists were not kept.

You are lucky in that you have some place names.  THe records for San Pietro Infine are held by the LDS for 1809-1902 (civil registration records).  Before that you have to work with church records which I have heard can be very difficult and expensive, but is possible:

multimap - map from Montecassino to San Pietro Infine.

Place is actually listed as 'Cassino', and I think these are the records for it:
