I received a marriage certificate copy today for the wedding of my ggg grandparents Richard Wensley and Sarah [/b]Silvey[b] Allen.
They married in Bristol 12/6/1847. The fathers name and occupation is scored out for Sarah suggesting that she is 'base born'.
A lookup for 1841 in Bristol shows her mother Mary Allen with 3 daughters described as a shoemaker.
Sarah Allen was born on Wells in c 1823.
I think her middle name Silvey may be a clue to her fathers identity.
Could someone look up the name Silvey in Wells 1841/1851 or BMDs to try to find the rotter. He would have probably been born in the 1790s.
The good women of Wells won't be safe until I have strong words with the bounder!!!

These are the Silvey clans I could find in the area in 1841. The William Silvey had Mary 'do' aged 30 under his name !! Maybe just coincidence and may confuse the issue even more

A definate contender! He is living in the same parish and is about the right age.
I don't suppose I will ever know but he is in the frame!
Is he just living with his daughter in 1841 please?

Dohh!!! Second time I have made that mistake.
The sentiment remains the same though, thanks for your help.
I quite enjoy these situations, a bit more interesting than the usual BMDs, although ultimately impossible to resolve. I don't suppose exhumation for a DNA test is really on the cards!
