Bascomb or Bascombe
« on: Friday 09 September 05 20:54 BST (UK) »

Anyone know anything about James Bascomb who married Jane in 1829, probably in Portsea, Hants (and his ancestors)? Or Frederick William Bascomb(e) who lived in Lansdown Place, Bath in the early 20th century?

bascomb is very much a dorset surname , i am descended from james bascomb who married in wool in 1710, the first bascomb in dorset was jean who came from france and settled in dorset around the wool/winfrith areas, do you have any other details  on the bascombs u are looking for.

Thanks for your reply. We have a huge amount on the Bascombs going back to the 1300s, and other family lines of different surnames going back a lot further. But there is a gap in our particular line. John Bascomb b.1720 Dorchester was married to Mary Fry of Winterbourne Zelston. We don't know who his father was, but suspect his grandfather might have been William Bascomb, b. 1657 in Dorchester, who was married to Ann Daley and then to Mary Hulet. William's father was William Bascombe b. 1630 in Fordington, Dorchester, who was married to tamsen Butler. Any ideas about the missing person?
