Hi,
I'm looking for a William Godden who lived in High Halstow in the 1820's and 30's.
According to his daughter's marriage cert in 1838 he was a labourer. I only have his daughter's details to go on so I'm guessing he would need to be at least 36 yrs old, most likely older.
Thankyou, Adrianne

Hi Adrianne, I can't seem to find William in High Halstow in 1841, the only Godden that I've found is: ref HO107 459-04 folio 6: Meadow Hole, High Halstow John Godden age 15 born in county seems to be lodging with George Henner or Fenner age 35 ag lab.
Can you post details of his daughter, name, spouse, where the marriage took place, as William may have moved to live nearer to her.
xx Carol

Hi Carol,
Thanks for looking
His daughter was called Sarah, she was born about 1819 in High Halstow and married there as well to John Wildish who wasn't a local. In 1841 Sarah and John were living in Buckland.
As to what you found already, I definitely think they are related as one of the witnesses on Sarah's marriage cert was a Geo Day Fenner!
Thankyou
Adrianne

Hi Adrianne, Have checked the 1841 census of Buckland, there are several Godden families, the only William was aged 70, and in the Dover workhouse. (ref 465-11 folio 43).
Here's the full ref for the Fenner household: ref HO107 459-04 folio 6: Meadow Hole, High Halstow George Fenner age 35 ag lab Ann do age 30 James do age 12 Sarah Ann do age 10 William do age 8 Henry do age 6 Edward do age 4 Robert do age 2 John Godden age 15 all born in county
Maybe Ann was a Godden before marriage, that may be worth investigating. Sorry I can't help any more with this. xx Carol

Thank you
That site is great. It seems that the Geo Fenner I have as a witness was a witness to almost all the marriages in High Halstow.
Seeing the originals is amazing. I'm in Australia and wasn't expecting to see parish records online for some time.
Thankyou again Adrianne
