Joseph Baker
« on: Saturday 10 September 05 17:37 BST (UK) »

Dear all,

I'm from Holland so I can't get really deep into the archive, but i'm looking for a man who was really important for the Dutch Ornitholgic Scene. This was a mister Joseph Baker as far as I know born at 27 Jun 1813 at Melbourn, Cambridgeshire. Thats what I know, what I understand more it that he worked in London, se he moved from Cambridgeshire. He worked for a while at Cardington Street at London for the Natural History Museum. At the end of forties he was still in London working on the galleries at Bloomsburry. He worked for John Gould, John Edward Gray, Alfred Newton and some more collectors.
This is what I know yet. And I know he colelcted birds in the Netherlands roughly between 1848-1860 mostly around Valkenswaard where the Royal Loo Hawking Club was active.
Who can help me on more information, like where and when he died, are there any relatives left and so on, any extra information is extremly welcome.

Yours,

Justin Jansen

Joseph Baker aged 1 was baptised in Melbourn in 1815, son of David & Sarah, per baptism index on Cambs FHS website - http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html

Sorry, but I don't have the exact date

Found more, David Baker was born in 1783 and married Sarah Campkin on 28 December 1808.
Now remains the question when did they die?

All the best,

Justin
