Hi Mark Yes they might be more available now,i have two maps one for each cemetery. Each one is the size of two A4's. I think it was originally bigger because the graves go over the edge of the paper. Unfortunately like most cemetery maps they do not give a plot that the graves are on. so you have to take a map when looking for a grave,it is hopless without one. Unless the lady is at the lodge. In the old cemetery there are lots of empty spaces with no number in so this means that there is no grave stone. Paul from the C&C Archives put a ring round my empty space so he saved me a trip. When i made the same inquire as you in the spring of last year,he had never seen one but had a scout round for me.Took him a couple of days ;)He did mention at the time that they might in the future print some off and add it to the website.Don't think that would be possible though you can email, recordoffice@cheshire.gov.uk or have a look at their website www.cheshire.gov.uk/recoff/home

Hi All I thought i would just let you know that on the map for the old cemetery. The 3 grave numbers givin me by Mark are not entered on the grave space where they should be.I was told by the libray that this means no headstone. So i am now waiting for mark to verifie this + the records office.I have directed Mark to the plot via the map so he wont have to wonder round in the rain .I have only been to the cemetery a couple of times because i live in Wirral,so a bit of a hike on buses & trains ;)If the plot of land that has the graves on.Is the one i think it is then there are a lot of spaces. While i am here :)when you enter the old cemetery the two paths one straight down, grave plot on the left. The scond path to the left grave plot on the right.Has a lot of headstones (all the same) i walked right round the land and most of them the inscriptions have worn away. What i would like to know is what kind of stone are they made of?I live on the coast and have never seen headstones in any cemetery i have visited, not many made of that stone ,a lot of them in wirral are marble or very ellement proof even the very old ones middle 1800.I would have expected Headstones in an area that has a salty air to deteriat like that over time not many have, but not the sheltered position overliegh. Was it the only stone available at the time do you think

I have used the Overleigh web site and it's great ... but not infallible. I know of one grave in my family which has 4 people in but only two are listed on the web site and the other two draw a blank ... the registry office confirmed that the web site is wrong in this case. However, it's still a great resource and has been very useful.
I live in Leeds now but visited Overleigh for the first time last week (on the spur of the moment) ... I went to Blacon first to visit my parents grave and then popped into the offices there with the info from the web site. They gave me a very crude map to take away but had a massive highly detailed map behind the counter. However, they said I needed to go to the offices on Duke St. to look up my relatives as their records didn't go back that far (1930s) and couldn't cross-reference to the map. Ironically, the folks I was looking for lived on Duke St. in the late 19th century.
I didn't have time to go to Duke St. and so I will have to return another day ... I did go for a look around nevertheless but found nothing.

Hi Dr Dan, which names were you looking for ? I am still seaching for Harp in the Overliegh cem but Blacon said they had no record.
I'm interested in locating the resting places of , "Sarah Pickstock, ne davies", "clara pickstock", "mary ann jones, ne picstock" as well as two infant deaths "still born pickstock" and "daniel keegan" ... there may be more family members in there too.
Before she died, my mum had a new gravestone put up for a single grave that contains my gm Clara Keegan (ne Pickstock), ggf Daniel Keegan, ggm Brigit Keegan (ne Connor) and her brother Michael Connor. I couldn't even find this grave by eye but in this case I do know that my aunty will be able to show me where it is. The others will require a visit to Duke St.

I had the same problem, i knew my aunt died in 1937 and was buried in Overliegh,Then my Grandmother died in 1992, cremated in Stoke-on-trent, ashes buried in Overliegh, then my sister died in 1996, cremated in stoke-on-Trent, buried in Overliegh, but the only stone that was erected was to a Debra Carlsson ?. My Daughter and i visited Overliegh then Blacon then back to Overliegh, where we asked winny at the lodge who by an amazing stroke of luck had a daughter who is a stone mason who trained at the mason's next to the cemetary and actually remembered my mother placing the order with a mr Carlsson, for the head stone. the only marker that shows where the family plot is !! If thats not bad enough the local council in Stoke are now taking away stones and leveling and lawning the grave sites because of Health and Safety.
