Hi Audrey,
Thanks for your very kind offer. I am particulary interested in the Rankin(e) family - especially John & David(son).
John Rankin was married to Marion Cosh & had 6 children - Alexander, Jannet, John, James, Jane and Davidson.
Davidson (may have dropped the "son" of the end) married Elizabeth Thorburn & had 7 children - Margaret, Alexander, Jannet, John, David, Agnes & Elizabeth.
As you can see there is quite a few reptitions of christian names, which makes this all the harder for me. If you need more info - let me know, but I believe the majority of them were born & lived in Portpatrick all their lives.
The parents of John & Davidson were Alexander Rankin & Janet Ingles - don't know if they were still alive at the time of the 1841 census or not so if you could locate them, that would be fantastic.
If I can return the favour, let me know. I have the BIVRI & 1881 British Census.

Thanks for looking for me, but excuse me if I'm a bit confused. I thought that the census you had was for Portpatrick, Wigtownshire. I don't have any connections with Wigtown itself.

Many thanks for the information. That is definitely 1 of the Rankin(e) clan I am looking for. Was there no entries at all for John Rankin(e). He's definitely on the 1851 census.

What info are you looking for for John Rankin?  I am a descendant of John Rankin and might be able to help. 
John Renkin (son of Alexander Renkin) was a widower and living with his son John Rankin and family in the 1851 census.  If you want any other info, please let me know.
