1861 census cumberland - Dean, Armstrong

Looking for Dean family believed living in village of Upperby 2 miles from Carlisle in '61 or '71 census. Also trying to find my Houdini - Halliburton Armstrong in '51 or '61 censuses - he would be aged between 7-11 in the '51 and living possibly either Kirkoswald or Brampton. Fingers crossed and many thanks

Unfortunately there isn't enough info to look fori the Dean family - I at least need a first name? Grin

There is a family called Deane (Head = James bn 1818) living in Upperby. Let me know some of the family members and I'll see if it matches.

Thank you Pam - spot on! That's our man!!!

Another hole punched in the brick wall - now the hunt is on for his parents, but since there are a million William Armstrongs in Cumberland at any given time, I think it calls for a visit across country to Carlisle very soon and a day in the records office Grin

I did solve the Deans riddle - mother Mary and 2 kids were in a grocer's shop in Upperby in 1861, while father William and 3 more kids were running a farm in Hesket about 20 miles or so away. Now that sounds a brilliant idea Grin

(but don't tell my wife!!)

Not sure which line they are attached to but they are Earthenware dealers of the same name as my lot.
