1841/51 Census Stockport/ Macc
« on: Sunday 11 September 05 13:20 BST (UK) »

Hi everyone,
Could someone please help to find Patrick Shanley b abt 1812/13 on either or both 1841/51 census for me.
In 1861 he was living at 13 Crowther Street,Stockport
with Mary b abt 1825 and birthplace given as Gibralter
and sons Louis 1844, Timothy 1848, Martin 1850.
Both Louis and Timothy have Macclesfield as birthplace and Martin's is Stockport.
I have the marriage certificate for Patrick and Mary and they were married in Stockport in June 1841, so they would be single on the 1841 census. Mary's maiden name was Flannigan and first born child Mary was born in Stockport in 1843
I have looked at the 1851 census  for Stockport without any success and am now thinking they might be in Macclesfield.
Thanks,
Pat.

Hi Pat,

I've checked the index for Macclesfield pieces 2158 and 2159 (1851) and the surname Shanley doesn't appear.  I've also rechecked the 1851 for the Stockport area pieces 2154, 2155, 2156 and 2157 (also 1851) for Shanley and Shandley and like you I couldn't see them.  I hope this helps someone else to narrow the search for you.

Hi

There is only one Shanley indexed in Macclesfield 1851 and I think it may be your Mary.

Peter,
Thanks once again for your help.
This must be my Mary, She married Henry Carson in 1860 and I have their marriage certificate.
I'm presuming that Thomas Flannigan was Mary's uncle and if I follow him up it might give me a lead on Patrick and the rest of the family.
Regards,
Pat.
