1841 & 51 Kensington Census - BOSHER
« on: Sunday 11 September 05 14:23 BST (UK) »

Please could someone see if they could find the following people on the 1841 & 51 Census for Kensington.

I have found the following on the 1861 census:-

9 Southend  St Mary Abbott Kensington

Esther Bosher b. abt 1791 Crossly Green Hants? (think this might be Croxley Green Herts)  Purveyor of Milk & Cream. widow.

Hopefully on earlier census returns she will be accompanied by her husband James Bosher & maybe their son James b. abt 1825 & daughter Mary Ann b. abt 1827 (both born Kensington) and possibly others.

Many thanks in advance

Hi Barbara

I'm afraid that she is widowed in 51.  I have 2 copies of this return but this page is very faded and hard to read. Very little of the 41 has been indexed, so it might be best to post again in a few months, as indexing is underway.

1851 Census
HO107/1468 Folio 155a
5 South End
Kensington

BOSHER Esther, Head, Widow, 60, Carrier & Cow Keeper, b Croxley Green, Herts
BOSHER James? Son, Unm, 25, Carrier & Cow Keeper, b Kensington, Middlesex
BOSHER Mary Ann, Dau, Unm, 22, b Kensington, Middlesex

+ 3 servants: House Servant & 2 Labourers.

Thanks again Rick, you have helped me out a lot this weekend, I'm really grateful.

You couldn't tell me if any of the servants or Labourers have the surname of either Stickney or Woolhouse, please.

I will do as you say and post another message in a few months.

Thanks

Hello Barbara

I was hoping that you weren't going to ask me that, because it is very hard to read! Grin

It looks like.

Anne LINC---? 14, House Servant, b Kensington
George GRANTHAM? 21, Labourer, b Bicester, Oxon
John LINC----? 17, Labourer, b Kensington.

Sorry.

I was just checking in case Mary Bosher's future husband was living there. On the 1861 census her future second husband was living and working (as a Milkman) at the same address. Thought she may have had a thing about Milkmen!!!

They seemed to like to change the description of their occupation in each census! But when it comes down to it, they had cows, milked them and sold the milk.

Thanks again Rick
