Hi Jean,

Can't really help, but I notice tht the IGI has 25 entries for PLANTE in NZ. One of these might ring a bell?

Cheers,

Hi tarnee

Have checked the NZ telephone white pages listing and there are no Plante listed, for either the North or South Island  but there is a possiblity that they may have dropped the E once they arrived in NZ, as a similar thing happen to some of the names I am researching in  NZ.

Hi,

Thats very kind of you to offer to call them. This may sound silly but l have not got any names. A 3rd cousin found me on this site and said that his grandmother went to NZ also some more of the family. My gggrandfather was Thomas Hodson Plante who had 5 sons they are from Staffordshire/Worcestershire/Warwickshire. England.

l was just hoping that somethere might be doing the family history or lived or knew of any Plante's.

kind regards

Jean

Hi Jean,

If your 3rd cousin could provide at least some names and any dates we should be able to help. The more information the better, such as occupation's, etc are very useful. If the PLANTE's arrived in the 1800's they may appear in the NZ Society of Genealogists' First Families Collection. With some names you could also advertise in their magazine for living descendants.

Regards, riley

Hi Riley,

Thank you for responding to my post, unfortunately neither of us know any names as yet, but one thing stands out that they were all Gold/Silversmiths. His grandmother said others went to NZ, this was before she died. This family certainly seems to have many skeletons in the closet. If l find anymore l will put a post.

kind regards

Jean

Jean

There are two probate records listed for a Neville Pope PLANTE - Napier.  One dated 1891 at Archives NZ Christchurch, the other dated 1877 in Wellington.

Hi Bee,

Many thanks for that, but l don't think he is part of this family, l do know that a Joseph Plante born abt 1836 is missing. My distant cousin has been doing the family tree for 10 years and has never found him, his grandmother emigrated to NZ and had told him that others had followed but gave no names. Looking at what we have there is no Neville until l had my son who is a Neville but will contact my cousin and ask him.

kind regards
